Making a Fireball Effect in Maya
Topics Covered
This tutorial will demonstrate and explain the process by which OpticalFX may be used to spawn and animate a fireball effect. This tutorials’ purpose is to use a point Light to emulate the look of popular video game and cartoon style power-blasts. When the tutorial is complete; a fireball will coalesce, zoom across the screen and explode. This procedure may be combined with other elements such as animation or background in either Maya or a compositing program.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Map a point light with OpticalFX
  • Use the IPR renderer to instantly view changes to your scene
  • Change the type of halo and glow
  • Animate value changes for the light over time
