Chapter 5: Games and Character Setup: Tutorial: Scaling a Rig Conclusion You can see how we took the rig and scaled to fit the character in question, the baby Glaarg. Cute, isnÕt it? The important parts to note for doing this to your own characters are: o Any control object that affects an IK chain should be scaled towards (or away from) the joint at the beginning of the IK chain. o Any control object that is not controlling an IK chain should be scaled from the pivot of the next control object above it. In the case of anything at the top level of a hierarchy, that will usually be the characterÕs center of gravity o DonÕt worry about the shape of the control objects at all as youÕre scaling them. Remember, theyÕre only representative geometry. The things that are really important are the pivot points. You can reshape the control objects afterward. o You should avoid translating control objects away from their base position in the neutral pose if at all possible. o The rig has 30 frames of a walk cycle on it. If you play it, it should work correctly now.
