International Student How-To Page
If you are a foreign national and want to take classes at Mesmer's Seattle location, we can provide you with
a "Certificate of Eligibility" I-20 Form for M-1 Vocational Students upon acceptance of your application.
AT LEAST 6 WEEKS BEFORE YOU LEAVE
(1) Email the Mesmer Registrar to request a registration form. Tell us what courses you would like to enroll for, and when.
(2) Complete and submit the Registration Form and fax to 206.782.8101. Send in a 20% deposit on the tuition to reserve your spot.
(3) Send us a letter from your bank, or some other proof that of sufficient funds in your bank account to support you for the duration of your stay in the US. You must show that you are able to provide the balance of your tuition, and money to cover living expenses. The balance of your tuition will be due on the 1st day of class.
(4) If you are applying for a longer program, please send us some samples of relevant work. Work you choose to submit may be of any type that demonstrates the essential fact that you have designed a project, then taken it to completion. Examples would include, but not be limited to: Architectural drawings, multimedia applications, web pages, drawings, paintings, airbrushings, videogame level design, character sketches, software application code, published fiction or non fiction, 2D cel animation, stop motion film animation, musical compositions or recordings, or other endeavors where you have actually brought a new work into the world.
The portfolio must be delivered digitally: via email, FTP, floppy disk, CDROM , or on videotape (NTSC format.) Original works should be scanned and reproduced digitally. Submissions will not be returned.
(5) Payment of Tuition
- Class seats may be reserved only by receipt of a 20% down payment on the total tuition amount, in US Dollars.
- Mesmer accepts tuition payment by certified check, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express, or bank transfer.
- Please email the Registrar for more information if you would like to pay by bank transfer. If your bank uses an intermediary in the US, you wil need to inquire of your bank, and pay any fee the intermediary bank charges for the transfer. You should also pay the fee your local bank may impose on the transfer.
- Note that you must submit a letter from your bank which shows you have enough funds to cover your living expenses and the balance of your tution.
(6) Your "Certificate of Eligibility" I-20 form for M-1 Vocational Students, will be mailed to you after your application has been accepted and your proof of financial support has been received.
(6)Take your passport and "Certificate of Eligibility" I-20 form to your local U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate to apply for a non-immigrant visa.
You will need to bring your I-20, valid passport, the necessary visa fee, an Application for a Nonimmigrant Visa , and proof of financial support. Please read the important information on applying for a non immigrant visa on the State Department web site.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE IN THE US
When you arrive in the United States, you should receive a Form I-94 (Arrival-Departure Record) that will include your admission number to the United States. You must give this number to the Registrar (Designated School Official) at Mesmer when you
come to class. The Registrar will also ask you for some information, including your I-94 admission number and where you are living.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
Mesmer does not require a submission of a TOEFL score or other English Proficiency Assessment. However, it is important that you be able to read and speak English fluently. When you go to the Consul to get your student Visa, the consular officer will conduct the visa interview in English and may test you if he/she
questions your English proficiency.
